Amazon Quality Assurance Engineer I, Ring Solutions Systems Team in Cambridge, United Kingdom

Description

As an Embedded Quality Assurance Engineer working with the Systems Engineering team, you will join a group of hands-on, passionate, and seasoned professionals developing innovative life safety and lifestyle products. Testing is primarily focused on qualifying and releasing custom hardware, embedded firmware, and maintaining releases centered around Ring Smart Lighting and Ring Alarm products.

Key job responsibilities

  • Qualify daily development stories and tasks to approve for deployment

  • Proactively report product readiness status to stakeholders and effectively apply solutions that assess and mitigate quality risks for product releases

  • Troubleshoot and isolate bugs to help developers research the root cause of problems, and track defects through resolution

  • Work with other QA members to develop test strategies to effectively qualify Ring products to meet high quality standards and release schedules

  • Assist in developing test plans for embedded devices

  • Understand component test strategies for product architecture and where necessary, make quality trade-off decisions at the feature level

  • Contribute to scripting and automation of implemented frameworks

  • Simplify and extend team testing, development, and operations processes; recommend and improve quality metrics

  • Take ownership of problems (even when outside your own domain), propose solutions, and either drive their resolution or ensure a clear hand-off to the right owner

  • Assist new hires and interns

A day in the life

A day in the life of a Ring Solutions Quality Assurance Engineer consists of:

  • Working in a fun and fast paced environment, with a team of very talented professionals

  • Qualifying features and functionality on cutting edge Ring products

  • Trouble shooting and performing root cause analysis for challenging issues

  • Collaborating with other QA and Development team members and stakeholders

  • Supporting external partners in the manufacturing process

About the team

The team is distributed across the globe with product and development leadership based in the US. We are growing a team in the United Kingdom to focus on the development of our core Ring Smart Lighting and Alarm Accessories devices on our latest HW platforms. We integrate the devices into many of Amazon’s family of products and technologies, like echo and Alexa enabled devices. The team is committed to developing life safety devices and accessory products for our neighbors to integrate into their home.

We are open to hiring candidates to work out of one of the following locations:

Cambridge, GBR

Basic Qualifications

  • Experience in testing embedded devices

  • Experience qualifying embedded Linux or IOT devices

  • Experience in a scripting language, such as python or bash/shell

Preferred Qualifications

  • BS in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering

  • Excellent communication, collaboration, reporting, analytical, and problem-solving skills

  • Experience with laboratory test equipment, oscilloscopes, power supplies, logic analyzers, and meters.

  • Experience working with alarm systems and life safety devices

  • Knowledge and experience of Agile methodologies, tools and test process

  • Rest API testing

  • Experience with Tools / frameworks – Jira, Confluence, Jenkins, TestNG, TestRail

  • Device integrations corresponding to Z-wave, Zigbee, Lutron, Alexa, Home kit

  • Familiar with home security and home automation products

  • Regulatory standards - UL, CP-O1, Alexa, iOS, Android, Z-wave, ZigBee, FCC, PTCR
