Amazon Technical Program Manager, Fleet Remediation Engineering (FRE), DC Engineering in Herndon, Virginia

Description

AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. In other words, we’re the people who keep the cloud running. We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. We work on the most challenging problems, with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain — and we’re looking for talented people who want to help.

You’ll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You’ll collaborate with people across AWS to help us deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers. And you’ll experience an inclusive culture that welcomes bold ideas and empowers you to own them to completion.

We are seeking an experienced Technical Program Manager to support our data center retrofit programs that modernize and improve our extensive data center fleet. At Amazon, along with technical strength, we expect our TPMs to interact with internal and external customers, partners and suppliers to understand our joint business goals and priorities, and to execute rapidly, delivering high-quality functionality. Amazon's vision is to be the world's most customer-centric company, and this role is key to that vision. These capital improvements to our data centers are essential for meeting our customers’ expectations for service and value and meeting Amazon’s goals for efficiency, speed, and reliability as we continue expanding our data centers to hyper-scale.

This role provides a unique opportunity to engage with cloud infrastructure at huge scale and the exceptional people that design and implement solutions and operate the infrastructure for the cloud.

Each day you will interact with different teams responsible for engineering, development, finance, integration, and operation of these complex capital improvement programs. You prioritize your activities to support and understand the projects’ status, solve problems and blockers, and focus on the actions that are most impactful for program success. As an ideal candidate, you:

• Are a strong written and verbal communicator

• Are great at solving problems and trying new approaches

• Have strong judgement, negotiation skills and ability to influence without authority.

• Build relationships and trust with different stakeholders (e.g., Engineering, Development, Finance, Operations)

• Are comfortable addressing and resolving ambiguity

• Recognize and appreciate diversity of thought and perspectives

Key job responsibilities

• Develop and get buy-in on plans and programs to improve our data centers and infrastructure

• Generate high-quality communications and reports that enable leadership to understand challenges and progress, and that provide transparency to all stakeholders

• Proactively identify risks/issues and remove blockers and barriers to successful completion of programs

• Collaborate across organizations (Engineering, Development, Finance, Operations) and be the linchpin for successful delivery of programs

Our team ensures that new infrastructure solutions are ready for production in brand new data centers and for planning and implementing similar capabilities, if not the same solution, in existing data centers. We work with a variety of technologies, big and small, across muti-disciplined teams, and impact AWS's entire global infrastructure. We are highly collaborative, build strong relationships, respond quickly to near-term challenges, while planning for long-term solutions. Where we don't have tools or mechanisms needed for our scale, we invent and adapt. Our team is relaxed around one another and quick to share knowledge and support.

We are open to hiring candidates to work out of one of the following locations:

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of technical product or program management experience

  • 3+ years of project management disciplines including scope, schedule, budget, quality, along with risk and critical path management experience
