    Railroad Construction Company is seeking a motivated, qualified individual with excellent communication skills to join our Philadelphia Metro Regional located in Langhorne, PA as a Project Engineer. A qualified candidate will be a member of the project team responsible for all aspects of the project, which includes planning, organizing, executing and closeout. The Project Engineer is responsible for providing technical engineering and project control support. The Project Engineer is expected to maintain a good knowledge of the contract specifications, documents and the scope of work, including subcontracts, and purchase orders. This role works closely with the Project Manager, Superintendent, Foreman and Crews on Field Operations.

    Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • • Works closely with Project Manager, fellow Project Engineers, Superintendents, Foreman and Crews on Project Deliverables.

  • Lead Junior Engineer(s)

  • Lead project meetings to collect and disseminate information pertaining to the project

  • Coordinate the collection and dissemination of technical information between/within the company and owner.

  • Manage and maintain Project submittal logs.

  • Manage and negotiate subcontractor and purchase order contracts.

  • Lead in developing schedule look ahead(s). Monitor program activity to achieve an on-time result including follow-up with external suppliers to ensure timely response to action items.

  • Involvement in the operations of cost control system and analysis of construction costs.

  • Determine possibility of conflicts/delays in the construction process by reviewing project drawing. Suggest preventative steps / alternate means of construction.

  • Prepare monthly pay estimate

  • Process and estimate change orders as directed by Project Manager.

  • • Organize and ensure proper document and drawing distribution to staff and field personnel

  • • Ensure all documentation is properly logged and tracked in the Project document control database

  • • Plan and coordinate the engineering deliverables from various parties

  • • Liaise with engineering, contracts, accounting and construction to ensure effective communication of all matters relating to the Project

  • • Produce correspondence such as letters, RFI’s, transmittals as required.

  • • Capable of independently performing tasks assigned with instructions as to the general results expected.

  • • Ensure labor tracking is coordinated and controlled between accounting and construction

  • • Attend meetings as required

  • Performs other related duties as required and assigned.

    Required skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering, Construction Management or related field.

  • Heavy Civil Construction background with 7+ year’s field experience.

  • Must be safety oriented – 10 hour and 30 hour OSHA certificate preferred.

  • Strong organization and time management skills.

  • Strong work ethic – willing to do what it takes to get the job done.

  • Ability to function in a leadership role as a team builder / player.

  • Strong knowledge of construction operations.

  • Knowledge of construction contracts, plans, specifications and applicable codes.

  • Experience with quality program implementation, measurement, and reporting.

  • Experience with effectively identifying and resolving issues.

  • Exhibits strong management skills and has the ability to lead and motivate employees.

  • Ability to meet deadlines.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and training skills.

  • Effective client relations, influencing skills and organizational skills.

  • Previous transit project experience strongly preferred, but not required.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite. Experience using Vista, HeavyBid, BlueBeam, and AutoCAD preferred, but not required.

  • Professional Engineering License is a plus.

  • Estimating skill and experience is a plus.

  • Survey and layout experience is a plus.

  • CPM schedule familiarity is a plus.

    Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

  • Works outdoors at construction sites and as well as indoors.

  • Frequently stands, walks, climbs, balances, stoops, and crouches while negotiating work areas under construction.

  • Sits, reads, writes and uses a keyboard.

  • May be exposed to harsh weather conditions including very hot and very cold weather.

  • May be exposed to loud noise.
