Summary:

Dental Clinic - Monday-Thursday 7:30am-6pm (40 hrs/wk)

Assists the dentist in the treatment and care of dental patients in oral hygiene. Assesses dental condition and needs of patient. Performs routine treatment procedures, such as cleaning and polishing, takes x-rays, applies sealants and fluorides. Teaches patient and family how to prevent tooth decay and gum disease through proper diet and oral home care.

Certificate from college program or technical school approved by the AR State Board of Dental Examiners

Description

  1. Observes patient and informs dentist of anticipated observed concerns.

  2. Ensures equipment utilized is in good working order.

  3. Reviews consent and medical history prior to treatment.

  4. Reviews and maintains dental records documenting assessments and care provided.

  5. Assists in patient/family education through written and oral explanation.

  6. Cleans calcareous deposits, accretions, and stains from teeth and beneath margins of gums, using dental instruments.

  7. Performs dental radiography adhering to radiation safety guidelines.

  8. Polishes teeth and applies fluoride and sealant treatments.

  9. Responds promptly to emergency situations and functions as directed by the dentist.

  10. Monitors and ensures all instruments and supplies are maintained to sterile standards. Ensures hygiene procedures (hand washing, infection control, etc.) are followed.

  11. Performs other duties as assigned.
