Job Summary:

This is an (AME) Advanced Manufacturing Engineering opening to be based in Monterrey MX for a process engineer specializing in compressor assembly, related automation, and managing line extension projects for the commercial HVAC business unit within Trane Technologies. Typical tasks involve defining process concepts, justifying alternatives, supporting procurement of assets, coordinating and building samples, as well as closing of implementation steps in transferring work to operations. This specific role will be responsible for scroll and screw compressor assembly projects extending product offerings or resulting in significant productivity.

Responsibilities:

  • Assembly process definition inclusive of equipment, work holding, process automation, information and material flow.

  • Coordination of sample builds early in product design phase and provide DFM input and manufacturing guidelines.

  • General assembly, test, finishing, and packaging process implementation including purchased equipment acceptance testing, part prove outs, validation work for process capability and rate, and initial training of operations staff.

  • Equipment justification and procurement inclusive of alternative analysis and selection, writing specifications and acceptance criteria, and managing purchase and installation tasks.

  • Contribute to manufacturing strategies for compressor sites considering product life cycles, business goals, and available industry technology.

  • Coordinate project tasks for sample preparation inclusive of aligning operations staff, materials prep, data collection, improvement path recommendations.

  • Identify and incorporate industry trends and technology related to parts prep, assembly, related automation, product testing, and information and material flow for supporting equipment to enable competitive, productive, safe, and sustainable processes in scroll and screw compressor assembly.

  • Participate as active contributor within new product introductions or major productivity projects delivering processes as part of a larger product offering or existing factory.

  • Contribute to safety, productivity, and sustainability initiatives in support of existing operations and new product introductions.

  • Aid in product design conversations working to highlight manufacturing requirements and fit with existing and planned future operation strategies, design for manufacturing in general, lean considerations as well as environmental, health, safety, and sustainability factors.

Qualifications:

  • B.S. in Manufacturing or Industrial Engineering (Master degree preferred).

  • Experience in mechanical assembly supported by automation.

  • Experience in manufacturing related project management.

  • Equipment conceptualization in preparation for work with integrators.

  • Experience with material handling design and conceptualization as well as other typical work cell related operator aids.

  • Strong communication skills.

  • Leading new product or process redefinition efforts.

  • Proficient knowledge of lean, automation, business systems, quality and product design as they relate to design for manufacturing principles and improving operator efficiency.

  • Proficient knowledge of validation metrics and systems related to quality, cost, rate, and sustainability.

Key Competencies:

  • Task management and coordination with operations and design functions in support of compressor sample builds, equipment launches, and product launces.

  • Conversion of design intent into meaningful equipment specs, acceptance criteria, and process quality information.

  • CAD usage for process concept ideation.

  • Advanced work holding principles, related GD&T, and basic part inspection principles.

  • Experience managing line integrators and contractors.

  • Automated assembly process understanding.

  • Automation, mechanical, logic trouble shooting skills following 1st piece builds and equipment launch.

  • Logical problem-solving skills and advanced knowledge of applying datums and GD&T principles in relationships between parts, work holding, and measurement systems.
