Job Title:  Principal Information Engineer

Location: Rockville, MD 

Overview: The Principal Information Engineer, recognized as key personnel, plays a pivotal role in supporting the cybersecurity initiatives within both on-premise and AWS cloud environments. This position focuses on enhancing the organization's security posture through expert management of security assessments and authorization processes.

Responsibilities:

  • Task Area 1 – Information Security and Privacy Program Support: Assist the Senior Principal Information Engineer in delivering comprehensive security services. Focus on the Federal Security Assessment and Authorization process, security policy/procedure development, and maintaining compliance with the Federal Information Security Management Act (FISMA) of 2014.

  • Expertise in managing and utilizing security monitoring tools such as Nessus, BigFix, Splunk, and Crowdstrike.

  • Responsible for subtasks including Policy Development and Maintenance, Program Planning, Training and Communications, and High-Value Asset Assessments.

  • Support continuous diagnostic and mitigation-based tools and processes to ensure the security and integrity of information systems.

  • Task Area 2 – Infrastructure and Cloud Engineering Support: Provide indirect support to this task area through security expertise, particularly in Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity/Continuity of Operations Planning (COOP).

    Qualifications:

  • Must possess an undergraduate degree in a relevant field.

  • A minimum of 5 years of cybersecurity experience.

  • Required to hold a junior cybersecurity certification (Security+ or similar).

  • Desirable to have at least one Splunk professional certification and a cloud or cloud security certification (e.g., ISC2 CSSP, CompTIA Secure Cloud Professional, AWS certification).

  • Must possess or be able to obtain a Tier 2 Public Trust clearance.

    Tools and Technologies:

  • Skilled in using security monitoring tools like Nessus, BigFix, Splunk, and Crowdstrike.

  • Experienced in implementing and managing security controls and compliance reporting in a hybrid environment (on-premise and AWS cloud).

    Work Hours:

  • Standard work hours are from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday, excluding Federal holidays.
