We are looking for a Senior Engineer focused on Microgrids to join our West Geography in California (San Francisco, Oakland, or Los Angeles) someone who has both passion and experience finding opportunities for solar and storage single- and multi-customer microgrids, leading technical and economic evaluation of systems, and evaluating conceptual opportunities for microgrid applicability. This role is focused on evaluation and concept engineering, design of behind-the-meter and front-of-the-meter microgrids, BESS (Battery Energy Storage System), and rooftop solar early-stage development through to detailed design.

The successful individual will join an integrated and growing team of urban energy consultants across disciplines in a well-rounded service offering inclusive of energy modelers, campus thermal system engineers, electrical & power engineers, civil engineers, economic advisors, and resilience & sustainability consultants.

Responsibilities:

  • Demand management and microgrid component specification, sequence of operations, and application.

  • Cost and benefit analysis over a project life cycle to support decision-making.

  • Understanding of the regulatory landscape for single- and multi-customer microgrids in California.

  • Review power system techno-economic evaluations performed by others using software such as PVSyst, Homer or Xendee software.

  • Experience surveying existing electrical installations & locations for solar and storage installations, laying out, designing, and/or installing solar and storage systems

  • Design and layout solar and renewable energy facilities and related site & distribution infrastructure under the direction of senior engineering staff.

  • Coordinate with other disciplines for Microgrid engineering and design.

  • Perform engineering and design calculations for Microgrids such as grounding study, short circuit study, cable ampacity study, load flow study, layout, yield study and AC/DC voltage drop calculation.

  • Eager to Learn and deliver various aspects of solar, BESS and other renewable energy system design, such as the proper sizing of DC cable and its layout.

  • Delegate and direct the activities of junior engineering staff where appropriate to their skill and ability.

  • Prioritize tasks to ensure quality work and client satisfaction while adhering to budget.

  • Support business development, proposal, and client relationship management activities working in collaboration with senior business staff.

  • Take initiative, follow agreed practice, innovate, and learn through experience and training.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in electrical engineering,

  • PE license desired (CA) or eligible to obtain PE license.

  • Must possess strong technical communication skills (writing and verbal) and be able to read and interpret technical literature and engineering plans.

  • Minimum of 4-6 years working experience in the renewable power generation sector at a microgrid or utility scale

Notable projects:

Hiring range - The good faith base salary hiring range for this job if performed in West Geography in California (San Francisco, Oakland, or Los Angeles) is $140,000 to $160,000 per year. Benefits are not included in the base salary. Please note hiring ranges for candidates performing work outside West Geography in California (San Francisco, Oakland, or Los Angeles) area will differ.
