Armstrong Flooring, Inc. (AFI), has an opportunity for a Production Supervisor at our Stillwater, OK facility. The Production Supervisor provides leadership and direction to assigned crews and production associates. This position reports to the Operations Manager.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • The Supervisor is responsible for the coordination of production scheduling, safety, maintenance and repair, quality, discipline, attendance, enforcement of plant rules and other related areas in the efficient operations of the facility and assigned employees.

  • Provides direction on production schedules, unscheduled downtime and the efficient utilization of resources.

  • Attend assigned plan meetings.

  • Conduct crew meetings, at minimum, of every other week.

  • Directs activities of a production crew ranging in size from 8 to 12 each (total of approximately 50 total plant production associates).

  • Responsible for maintaining safe and efficient operations and reporting to the Operations Manager and Plant Manager any problems or concerns on meeting performance goals.

  • Assist in ensuring that team support personnel are reporting absences and tardiness.

  • Assist with the coordination of repairs and maintenance activities with maintenance department to maximize uptime.

  • Leads and facilitates trouble shooting of down equipment and process problems.

  • Leads safety activities of production associates.

  • Assist Safety Focus Teams as needed with accident investigations.

  • Ensure Focus Team corrective actions are being conducted and recorded in timely fashions.

  • Provides creative leadership in improving operating efficiencies.

  • Provides ongoing Focus Team personnel to ensure safety, quality and delivery performance.

  • Provides counseling, leadership and direction to the hourly associates on production issues.

  • Timely communicates issues of discipline or policy violations to Human Resources.

  • Enforces plant rules, monitors attendance and provides corrective action as necessary.

  • Prepares production reports and data for management.

  • Conducts regular pre- shift meetings.

  • Timely coordinate and review progression request forms.

  • Helps management by monitoring the timely completion of associate training.

  • Coordinates improvements activities with other departments.

  • Acts as Resource to ensure that unscheduled downtime is timely communicated.

  • Prepare disciplinary documentation and counsel/warn employees as necessary and ensure documentation is sent to Human Resources.

  • Ensure focus teams are performing minimal jobs required of their Grade Level.

  • Conduct annual performance reviews of all employees.

  • Identifies improvement opportunities and facilitates action on their shift.

  • Other duties as may be assigned.

Non-Essential Functions of the Job:

  • Temporarily fill in on crews when shorthanded to fulfill production requirements.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Approximately 50 production associates


  • Occasional travel for conferences, vendor meetings or similar activities may be required (<10%)

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3 - 5 years manufacturing experience with at least 2 years in a leadership or leadership support role

  • Continuous process type manufacturing experience preferred

  • Experience in cost reduction, production efficiency improvements and continuous improvement activities are also very desirable such as Six Sigma, 5S, TPM, SMED and Standard Work.

  • Shift flexibility is essential with rotating schedules required

Preferred Qualifications:

  • College degree or equivalent experience preferred

  • Experienced with LEAN manufacturing practices

  • Past experience supervising others

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Excellent organizational and teamwork skills

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Ability to follow established policies and procedures

  • Proficient computer skills including MS Office

  • Ability and willingness to work core hours to support the needs of our brokerage firms and plant locations

About the Location (Stillwater, OK)

Our Stillwater Plant employs approximately 150 people and operates 24 hours a day, up to 7 days a week. Production teams work a 12 hour rotating shift. The plant manufactures and ships vinyl sheet flooring products.
