Armstrong Flooring, Inc. (AFI) has an opportunity for a Safety & Environmental Manager at our facility in Stillwater, OK. The Safety & Environmental Manager is a key member of the plant leadership team and supported by the divisional leadership from the corporate offices in Lancaster, PA. They are also responsible for the plant’s environmental, safety and health programs, initiatives and compliance.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Compliance

  • Conduct site audits, evaluate plant’s compliance with environmental regulations and identify areas of improvements

  • Implement environmental solutions and drive changes in manufacturing processes / systems that lead to reduction in environmental waste streams

  • Lead investigations on environmental non-compliance incidents and provide urgent response to operational issues

  • Provide project support for corporate EH&S initiative in areas of reduction of energy usage, greenhouse gas emissions and water use management

  • Manage the plant’s safety and industrial hygiene programs and ensure compliance with internal and external safety and health regulations and policies

  • Ensure compliant Lock Out Tag Out (LOCO) program is in place

  • Ensure training and annual refreshers are conducted in timely fashion

  • Manage active Hand Safety program and initiatives

Training

  • Lead plant environmental and safety training programs

  • Conduct new hire EH&S orientation

  • Provide technical expertise to plant personnel on key governmental regulations pertaining to environment, health and safety

EHS Program Administration

  • Manage plant’s environmental and OSHA regulatory reporting and record keeping requirements

  • Prepare and submit all environmental permits

  • Create and manage budgets for EH&S activities including consulting and testing, waste removal, safety equipment, safety recognition activities, etc.

  • Oversee the plant’s Worker’s Compensation program with close coordination with Human Resource Manager on claims and missed time reporting and compensation

  • Responsible for the Plants PPE programs to include scheduling and coordination of vendor’s in-plant offering of safety shoe and safety eye wear

  • Oversee annual flu shot program and other health and wellness initiatives

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • None; however, may be required to provide technical guidance and direction to other personnel within the facility.

Travel:

  • Moderate travel expected, less than 5%

  • Occasional travel for conferences, vendor meetings or similar activities may be required (<10%)

Required Qualifications:

  • BS degree in Engineering, Occupational Safety and Health, Environmental Management or closely related field

  • Minimum of 3 years demonstrated EH&S management experience in a manufacturing environment.

  • Experience with environmental regulations and reporting requirements

  • Experience preparing and delivering EH&S training

  • Incident Investigation expertise including Root Cause Analysis or Five Why Analysis.

  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint

  • Strong leadership, project management and team facilitation skills

  • Effective communication skills (writing, presentation, data organization)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5-10 years of experience in a manufacturing environment

  • Prior experience leading site EH&S activities

  • Knowledge of Six Sigma, Lean and/or other process improvement methodologies

  • Computer proficiency in Minitab or similar statistical software

  • Certified Safety Professional or Certified Industrial Hygienist

  • OSHA 10 and/or OSHA 30 Training

  • Green Belt certification

About the Location (Stillwater, OK)

Our Stillwater Plant employs approximately 150 people and operates 24 hours a day, up to 7 days a week. Production teams work a 12 hour rotating shift. The plant manufactures and ships vinyl sheet flooring products.
