Overview:

The Director of Project Management is responsible for managing the successful planning and execution of product development projects. Products include software & apps and electronics & communication accessories. This person works closely with engineering, product, marketing and other functional leaders to plan the delivery of the products’ roadmaps.

Job Responsibilities:

This role establishes/upholds appropriate standard project practices and processes, and acts as the subject matter expert through mentoring Project Managers and teams in the definition of scope, timing, cost, and approvals. This position is accountable to the Executive Team for key project milestones, activities, resources and schedules for the project aligned to meet project management standards. It is a key role that supports the integration of processes between business groups.

Leadership

  • Lead governance and administration functions. Ensure projects are executed to schedule, cost, scope and quality commitments.

  • Maintain records, systems and other criteria relating to project execution and standardization procedures.

  • Demonstrate creativity and ingenuity in applying problem solving principles and practices.

  • Collaborate with Product Managers to understand product roadmaps and put plans in place to deliver them.

  • Assist in identifying and resolving roadblocks to ensure projects stay on track.

  • Report out: project status, issues and risks to sponsoring management and key stakeholders.

  • Create and maintain project portfolio dashboard with key project metrics.

  • Collaborate with software development, engineering, IT, sales, operations and other departments to ensure successful product development.

  • Ensure optimal application of project resources to meet each project plan. Maintain time tracking.

Project Management

  • Provide project management leadership to complex projects to drive business strategy.

  • Lead cross-functional project team.

  • Develop project schedule and execute in accordance with the Development Process.

  • Identify, evaluate and document “lessons learned” during projects. Communicate best practices and lessons learned to project team members as appropriate. Evaluate and update systems and processes for continuous improvement.

Team Management

  • Manage team which consists of project managers and business analysts

  • Create and maintain an organizational culture that encourages innovation, collaboration, excitement/commitment and a sense of urgency toward goals.

  • Design and direct the work of the functional area.

  • Select, coach and develop the team, setting objectives that align with company strategy to inspire and motivate the team.

  • Manage organizational talent through performance management, succession planning and development to create a high performing project management team.

  • Design and direct processes by which team and individual performance are recognized, feedback is consistently delivered, and performance is systematically improved.

Minimum Qualifications

Education

Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Business, Marketing, or other technical discipline OR 8 years of related experience in a similar working environment

Work Experience

  • 15 years of progressive work experience in engineering, software development, marketing, and brand or product management within a complex business environment;

  • 15 years of project management experience in both waterfall and agile

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

  • Demonstrated excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills that are broadly effective across multiple audiences – from early career professionals to executives;

  • Ability to deliver results while working on multiple projects simultaneously, balancing resources, timing and quality of outcomes

  • Reputation for cultivating happy, thriving teams of professionals who are known for collaboration and excellence in delivering

Preferred Job Requirements

Certification

  • Project Management Professional Certification

Work Experience

  • Certified SCRUM master 

Physical demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear; and use hands to manipulate objects or controls.  The employee is regularly required to stand and walk.  On occasion the incumbent may be required to stoop, bend or reach above the shoulders.  The employee must occasionally lift up to 25 pounds. Specific conditions of this job include are typical of frequent and continuous computer-based work requiring periods of sitting, close vision and ability to adjust focus. Occasional travel.
